Devon Crawford was one of those people generally known for having very healthy appetites, especially when he went through his favored exercises of running and/or practicing on the Quidditch field. That afternoon was one of those instances where he'd done both, and as it wasn't time for dinner to be served just yet, he decided to go down to the kitchens. The house elves were always obliging to those in need of food, a fact he often availed himself of.
Jogging down the stairs that led down into the correct corridor - the one that also led down to his House's common room - he walked past the various portraits and paintings of food. The bright light of the torches was reminiscent of the sunlight he'd come in out of, so it didn't seem that harsh to his eyes. Finally coming to the correct painting - that of a bowl of fruit - he brushed his fingers across the painted pear and chuckled as it giggled, winding his hand around the doorknob that formed.
Inside, he found himself a bit overwhelmed by attention from the house elves on staff, but managed to - kindly and with a smile at all times - whittle them down to just a few. These asked what he would like, he told them, then glanced around at his surroundings while he waited for his food to be brought.

(I am just going to assume that Reese is on the Quidditch team as well, i put in a request, but it was first come first serve so i think i will be on.. lol)
Reese pushed open the Fruit portrait that led to the Kitchens. She had a long day, first the run-in with the Slytherins and then a long Quidditch practice. Not to mention her brother getting after her for not practicing her Transfiguration assignment. "Oh, hello Devon!" Reese said, as she spotted Devon, a fellow Hufflepuff and member of the Quidditch team. Reese wandered over to him, as the house elves surrounded her with platters of fresh pastries and tea. She stopped next to him, smoothing out her black mini shift dress and pushed some hair out of her eyes. "After today's practice, I could eat everything in here!" Reese said smiling up at him. Even though he was a year younger than her, he was still taller than her 5'3" frame.

Blinking at the sudden sound of someone of the non-elf variety speaking, Devon glanced around to see who it was, then had to look down a bit to spot Reese. He knew her from the Quidditch pitch and vaguely remembered running drills around her own, and they obviously shared a house. Friendliness never was that out of the question.
"Oh yeah, I know what you mean." He grinned a bit, running a hand through his somewhat messy hair. "It's a great way to work up an appetite, that's for sure. I don't know what I'd do if we weren't allowed food except for at mealtimes." The thought of a restriction like that prompted him to pull a face.

"Right?" Reese agreed, she took a small cherry pie from one of the house elves and bit into it. Chewing she surveyed the kitchens and all that eager-to-please house elves. She finished her pie and then glanced at Devon. "I wonder if they ever get tired of us students sneaking food..." Reese wondered outloud, taking a cup of tea and a biscuit offered. Reese was a confident person, having no problem showing that she had an appetite.

"If they have, I don't know why they haven't done anything about it yet." Shrugging a bit, he took the plate of bacon and eggs - one that took two house-elves to bring - and happily tucked into it. Conversation was left to hang for a moment as taking the edge off of his hunger was his first priority.
"If they tried to close this place off, they'd have a hard time keeping me out. Need to keep some kind of physique up, what with batting bludgers like crazy." With enough sense to say it without a mouthful of food, he grinned nonetheless. "You guys have it easy, not having to swing a bat around while flying and trying to keep your teammates' heads from getting smashed in. Of course, midair collisions don't look like much fun." There were pluses and negatives to each position.

Reese grinned and swallowed some very hot tea. "Hardly." Reese chuckled. "Having to purposely fly towards Bludgers is not something I would want to do. So, props to being a Beater. But I do think Chasers are the most active flyers, we never stop do we!" Reese sighed, "I do expect a lot of collisions in the Slytherin match though...Madam Pomfrey won't be happy. But I expect it would be worse if it were Slytherin versus Gryffindor..."

"No, I guess you can't stop. That's like being painted with a giant bullseye." Now juggling a mug of pumpkin juice on top of his food, he took a long drink of it and wiped his mouth with the back of his sleeve before continuing, "I'd hate to be the Gryffindors if we can manage to beat the Slytherin gits, let me say it that way. We need to because they're far too full of themselves." Nodding sagely as if it was simply the best truth, he popped another piece of bacon into his mouth - whole, no less.

"Hm, I agree."Reese said. She thanked a house elf that offered an assortment of chocolates. She propped herself up against a stove and ate the chocolate, thinking for a minute. "I heard something strange in the library today..." Resse found herself confiding.

"Did you, now?" Wondering where this conversation could end up, Devon found a clear space to set his plate down and did so, leaning against one of the replica tables - the ones that mirrored those above in the Great Hall. "And what was it you heard?"

"Some Slytherin girls talking, I hear Lucius's name and something about being accepted... but they got all jumpy once they found me on the otherside of the bookshelf." Reese sighed remembering. This morning's event had been bugging her all day, she just wanted to confide it to someone else. Her brother would tell her that she heard nothing, and then to get back to her homework. Dhe needed to tell someone, why not Devon?

"Oh, I see." With enough experience with the Slytherins to know that they had some kind of..weird hierarchy/pecking order going on, Devon wasn't all that surprised at the revelation. "I probably have an idea of one of the girls you're talking about. I learned a long time ago to keep my nose out of serpent business, though."

"I didn't exactly want to hear that...stuff." Reese said. "I was just getting a book. I do try to avoid that crowd as much as I can." She smiled despite herself, she found the Slytherin hierarchy comical. Why did there have to be a Queen-bee of a house?

"Still, a bad idea to cross any of them." Deciding not to take that subject any farther, Devon retrieved his plate of food again and resumed eating. "And I don't know about you, but I don't think we really even need to bring any of them up. There's plenty of other pleasant things to talk about."

Reese smiled, "True." Taking another cup of tea from the elves she took a sip. "So, what pleasant things should we talk about?"

"Oh, you know, Quidditch, the weather, Hogsmeade trips.." Grinning a bit, Devon shrugged in a manner typical of him. Conversation wasn't exactly his strongest point, as he could be a bit..oblivious about the subtle details of social interaction. "Anything you or I want, y'know. We're the only humans here right now."
