Nayda Rivera arrived in the empty Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom, in a rush with a few minutes to spare. She still had some time before her students would filter in from their other classes to hers. She glanced around the room taking it all in and smiled. She had always wanted to teach here. She loved the stairs that led to the Professors office, and the whole feel of the room. She had come in the day before to get make sure everything was in place and was quite pleased with the way it had all turned out. The walls were decorated with all sorts of different pictures; from famous witches and wizards to landscapes. There were tanks and cages scattered around the room that held different sorts of animals and on shelves there were different objects though it was a bit hard to figure out what they all were.
The sun shone brightly through the windows of the classroom, which was slightly ironic considering it was a place for learning the Dark Arts, and how one should defend against them. She was quite eager to begin her first class, and had made exciting plans for her new students, that would hopefully peak their interest not only for today but for the rest of the year.
After her quick survey she walked to the front of the classroom and stood next to the blackboard. She brushed the few strands of strawberry blonde hair that had escaped her loose pony tail out of her face as she thought about what she was going to write. As most of the things she did, the idea just seemed to pop into her head and she finally flicked her wand at the board and wrote in neat cursive writing:
“Please take a seat quietly and remove your text books and wand.”
She wrote nothing else, no headline saying what today's lecture would be about. Just mere instructions, that better be followed or else... Nayda was known to be strict when it came to punishing students that stepped out of line. But her classes could actually be quite enjoyable to those who were willing to learn. When she had finished setting up the rest of her things on her desk she retreated to her office. She didn’t like to be in the room when her students arrived, rather liking instead to make a bit of a grand entrance.
