The Malfoys are an old, aristocratic wizarding family of great wealth and influence. Lucius' father was named Abraxas Malfoy and died of dragon pox at a considerable age [HBP9]. Little else is known about Lucius's family apart from their pure-blood lineage and penchant for the Dark Arts. Lucius Malfoy is a cunning and dangerous man. Born in 1954, he likely entered Hogwarts in 1965 or 1966, depending on his exact birthday. Like all the Malfoy's, Lucius was in Slytherin as a student [PS/SS5]. Unsurprisingly, he possesses all of the qualities that make Slytherin House a veritable breeding ground for dark wizards. Lucius graduated in 1972 or 1973, when the marauders were still in the beginning of their Hogwarts education (second or third year)

Lucius patrolled the corridors with a certain haughtiness. Today was turning out to be an excellent day and was in the mood to use his Prefect status to the max. The recent news of the Muggle death at the Ministry of Magic was causing a silent, yet tangible fear that gripped most of the wizarding world. Yet, from the letter that he had just received from his father, Lucius could tell that what was stirring behind the mayhem was a powerful force that intended to rid the world of Mudbloods.
Lucius was just turning the corner in a Dungeon corridor when he almost ran into Professor Slughorn.
"I'm terribly sorry, sir." Lucius said as Slughorn looked up at him surprised. Slughorn grunted his acceptance and then rearranged his face in a gloating smile.
"Lucius, m'boy!" He boomed, "Would you fancy to be a guest at my dinner party I am holding. With your work in Potions, and as I can gather from the other teachers, you will go far m'boy. I wouldn't mind in the slightest to sit down and talk about your future!"
Lucius smiled appreciatively. He, of course, had been a frequent member of the Slug Club throughout his Hogwarts years. Lucius's ambition to be a great wizard led him to put up with a pathetic teacher's attempts to turn out only the most successful wizards.
"I would be delighted sir." Lucius smiled charmingly. He had always had a knack to charming the teachers, that's why none of them gave a second glance to what he was up to. And that's the way he preferred it.
