As usual, Jane was having a hard time concentrating. Pushing her blonde hair out of her face, as she periodically did, she looked up from the text book she was studying, something that seldomly occurred. Though she was intelligent, sitting still was an art Ms. Kenyon had yet to master. Something she was feeling a bit frustrated about at the moment. She was feeling more pressured to study these last few years at Hogwarts. She’d done well on her OWLS last year though she wished she could’ve done better. She knew that she was more adept at some subjects than most of the people who had actually studied simply because she had instincts and intellect. However, deep down, she also knew that would’ve excelled if she could just take the time to read a few books. Overall, she was determined to do well this year and especially on her NEWTS next year. A dream that was quickly being put on the back burner thanks to her short attention span. Reading text to her was like reading Isaiah from the bible. It may be fascinating but after a chapter, she was reading to take a nap.
"Tests should not be a legitimate method for testing one's intelligence," she muttered to herself.
Her eyelids were getting a little heavy and she yawned and she put the book down. She was considering reading upside down, imagining it would be difficult to fall asleep in that position as her brown eyes turned outside where she caught a glimpse of the Quidditch field where she very much longed to be at the moment. While scholarly duties may not be her strength in life, movement definitely was her calling.
She looked down at the text book, Compendium of Curses and sighed. It was her extra DADA manual. Which was her favorite class. The teacher had recommended it for both of the Hogwarts major tests. But of course, Jane hadn’t read it. Yet. After another sigh, she determinedly picked the book back up and buried her nose into it, willing herself to get it done.
A half hour later. The book was back down on the desk and instead of taking notes as her piece of parchment had originally been intended for, Jane was racking her brains out over some lyrics she had mused up within the last five minutes.

(( Sorry, I wasn't aware this was here or I would have posted... >.< ))
Why do I find myself spending so much time here?[/color] he wondered to himself, looking at the several students that seemed to have to much homework to deal with at the last minute. He yawned, and went back to his old standby of reorganizing the books on the shelf so they were in the correct place. It wasn't so much a hobby as much as a way to collect all his thoughts. He'd just finished cleaning out Lit's case, who was enjoying the warmth of the fresh heat charm he'd placed upon it. His Hufflepuff roommates weren't particularly... thrilled with sharing a room with a snake.
"Treating Poisons; from Aaazernota Toxin to Venomous Tentacula Bite goes down there," he said, recognizing the book from its battered state and lettering. He pointed his wand at the high on the shelf book and moved it down toward the end with the other books from its series. Amazing how many students forgot (or just didn't care) and just tossed a book back up on the shelf. Or even just left it on the tables.
He was fast growing bored of the old pasttime of his, deciding he needed something else to do, at least for the moment. It would be alright if he could do something producting.... He didn't have any homework left. He'd left his sketchbook in the dormitory as well. Perhaps there was someone who needed assistance?
He glanced around, ruling out the Ravenclaw 7th year in the corner who was muttering into his books. He didn't particularly like Tirona... something about being outsmarted by a Hufflepuff. He hadn't really been listening. The others seemed like they wouldn't mind though... although he couldn't be sure. When he got closer he'd look at them and remember their names, either from a class or sorting or something or other.
"Do you need any assistance?" he asked the girl sitting at the nearest table.

She stopped quite abruptly, looking unnaturally still for a moment like a deer caught in headlights as she was interrupted. As if she had been caught doing something naughty, she looked up abashedly, trying to look innocent. Mentally she pitched a fit at herself for getting caught up in something that was not homework. When she saw who it was towering over her, she felt even more stupid. She recognized him immediately having played quidditch against him several times. He was on the Hufflepuff team. And from, what she had seen so far, he seemed extremely intelligent.
It wasn’t that Jane was an idiot. She could actually be quite brilliant. However, she found it difficult to learn out of books or notes. That and she was too energetic. She’d rather be experiencing things than writing out homework assignments. It didn’t stop her from worrying though that people might classify her as a moron. Which she probably was too most of the Ravenclaw students. An idea she really didn’t like.
But Jane smiled brightly anyway with confidence as she looked up at him.
“Well yes. Perhaps you can find me a new brain that actually works and doesn’t wander off everything three seconds?” she said jokingly. “Then maybe I’d get my work done.”

He went through the lists in his mind after looking at her face. He'd seen her around the school... but nothing that he'd know her name from that he knew of. Probably a sixth year, his second year he'd missed the sorting, and most of dinner, putting Lit's case together in his year's dorm. An... interesting surprise for his roommates when they'd returned. They'd almost killed him....
"Mine's not doing anything at the moment," he said. "Nothing interesting anyway." He was usually doing something. Working out equations in his head and a lot of other things. He had a book of muggle math equations that he did for boredom. That was something he'd considered doing really after school; going to a muggle college for a challenge. Although, he also liked the prospect of teaching at the school. So many options....
"What're you working on, perhaps I can lend you a hand; or a brain, whichever you need." If someone that Tirona had known had heard him actually make a joke, they would've died. Or at least, as close to a joke as he'd ever actually ever made. He had an uncle that was a big fan of muggle movies. His favourite, that he made Tirona watch every time they went to visit, had someone in it who wanted a brain.
He shook his head lightly before the train of thoughts went further. He had a sort of domino effect in his brain. When he thought of one topic, he thought of another, and another, and another... and on until it was nearly impossible to tell what the original thought had been. He shook his head when he caught himself doing it, and it usually stopped the chain. It was usually alright when he was alone, he sort of zoned out when it started though....

Jane laughed. “I will not deprive you of you’re brain. You’ll need it in the upcoming match against Slytherin,” she said having firmly decided he was on the Hufflepuff team. “Which I very much hope you win by the way.” She thought fancifully of Lucius Malfoy falling off his broom in the middle of the match with Tirona flying overhead triumphantly and fell into la la land for a moment as she started thinking about quidditch. Eyes glazing over slightly as she envisioned broomsticks. But she shook her head, trying to stay focused at the task at hand. “I’m just studying.” She held up her Compendium of Curses. “I’ve made it my goal to read it. I want to be an Auror. I can’t seem to do it though.”

Tirona nodded about the comment about quidditch. He'd actually joined the team to help him get over his fear of heights, which he'd done after 3 or 4 practices on his own, and then gotten over during their first game in the rain. Which wasn't exactly the best time for the Hufflepuff keeper to master. The seventh year wasn't the best player in the world... if he was, he would've been going out for a team, he was fair he supposed, just looking for a physical activity to occupy himself with.
Besides, he had the least amount to do in the sky. He didn't have to hunt for the snitch, worry about getting the ball, or hitting anyone, just had to focus on making sure that whenever the ball shot toward him it didn't go in. Not that it wasn't stressful sometimes, but still, it was the easiest job in the sky. Although, he was usually the first one to get yelled at. When you lost, they tended to blame the keeper instead of the other team's chasers....
"Probably just a little bit of a short attention span I would guess. Let's try this..." he said, tapping the book with his wand for a moment. A second later, a projection of the words shot off the page and into the air above them. It was a simple illusionary charm, sort of like holding a mirror above something that was reflected seem bigger. It was most often used in magical photography, to expand the size of the picture. "Any more interesting?"

Jane nodded enthusiastically in agreement on his remark about a short attention span. She had the attention span of a rodent. The tiniest noise or smell would easily distract her. The only time she ever seemed to focus was when she was flying. But that was typically due to the fact that she was doing some dangerous maneuver where lack of concentration could end up in her death and she really didn’t like that idea. Jane likes life.
She watched in bedazzlement as the projection beamed up in front of her eyes. With moving pictures and text, she could’ve squealed out of delight. “Yes! Definitely much more interesting! Thank you so much!”

He nodded as she said that it was better with the words flying fancifully through the air. He didn't know why they didn't do it with most books... he saw it as a cheap way the book companies could make money. They could produce them as books for kids that didn't have long attention spans, it wouldn't take much spell-casting, and it would make them a ton of money from frustrated parents. Maybe he'd send another annoymous letter to Flourish & Blotts....
"And if you start to get bored again..." he waved his wand and the letters vanished, but the letters on the page started circling through different colours, before projecting back above the book once more. "Just try not to let Ms. Pierce see you doing the second one. She tends to think you're doing something to the book."
He glanced up to make sure that the old librarian wasn't anywhere around them. She had a sixth sense for when she thought someone was trying to mess with one of her books. It was like she'd put a magic charm whenever someone brought a pen anywhere near one of them. If you did right in one of them... she got a look that would make Grimwalde turn and run in fear. Him... he just avoided it. It was difficult enough to explain that he wasn't doing anything to the book when the words weren't a different colour.
