His sister was born some three years after him, and while both were still young, their older brother Alexander died in a freak boating accident on the river Trent. After that, Devon tended to be very overprotective over Ashley. Always an active boy, he started in various sports - both Wizarding and Muggle - around the age of eight. Quidditch was always his favorite, and it was something he excelled at when playing with relatives on holiday.
