Marlene tossed and turn in her bed, in the dormitory she shared with four other girls. She sighed as she heard someone whisper to her to shut up. She had been tossing ever since they had laid down to go to sleep. Lena got out of bed and tiptoed towards her jacket on her dresser. Pulling on the black zip-up jacket over her navy blue tank top, her black fuzzy pants fell a little below her feet that wore white socks to keep them warm; she was known to freeze in any type of weather. Debating about taking her blanket it she left it and decided the fire would be warm enough. Instead, she grabbed a book that she had been meaning to read since this summer.
Lena quietly closed the door behind her and left her dorm-mates in peace. She knew they would be happy that she had chosen to do so. She walked down the dark hallway, using the walls to guide her down toward the common room. She approached the door and opened it walking into a common room that was lit by nothing more than a dimming fire and a few candles. Her cinnamon brown eyes quickly took in her surrounds with curiosity. Closing the door to the girl’s dormitory quietly, she walked around to the nearest arm chair and sat down in it. Her eyes stared at the small fire in front of her, as though mesmerized by it.
She stayed staring into the fire for a good bit as she got lost in her own thoughts. She wondered what her plans for tomorrow would be. She wanted to go out and about but she was afraid something might prevent that. She wanted to leave Hogwarts for a bit and maybe sneak into the Forest and read the book that sat beside her. She wanted to write and attempt to draw, she even wanted to explore.

Remus should've known better than to try to read in the dormitory of the the third year Gryffindor boys. It was nearly impossible to sleep, let alone concentrate. Try as he may, Peter wailed and it sounded as though James and Sirius were beating him with pillows.
"Could you guys keep it down?"
If anything the noise got louder. Annoyed, he closed his book shut and sat up. With a sigh, he walked across the room, the others not even noticing, as he slipped out the door. His bare feet slapped against the cold stone steps, keeping a hand on the wall as he walked down the winding staircase that ran through the boys dormitory, each year having their own floor.
He was so irked with the other boys, who no doubt hadn't finished their homework, he didn't even notice Lena as he walked into the common room, the fire just barely burning. He stood near the stairs and quickly scanned the room.
"No pillow fights" he said outwarldly in content.

Lena had heard the boys dormitory door open, however, she paid no mind to it. Still lost in thought as looked at the book sitting on her arm rest. She really should have read it over the summer like she had promised her mother, but she didn't. So before she got on the train her mother made her promise that this time she really would read the book before she got home from Hogwarts. Cinnamon brown eyes were rolled as she nodded and promised her mother that it would be read before the school year was over.
Right now, Lena was regretting that promise, the book didn't even look remotely interesting, and that was saying something considering Lena loved to read. In fact, one of her missions in life was too read all of the books in Hogwarts library. Rumor had it, that once you did the library would be filled with all new books. She was determined to find out if this was fact or fiction. With a smirk Lena continued thinking about this, the last ting on her mind the boy whom had just entered.
"No pillow fights." This did catch Lena's attention. Turning she cocked her head to the side to get a look at the boy. "Excuse me?" Lena questioned him. Her eyes looked over him, everything from his hair, to his eyes, to the book on in his hands. She brought her eyes back up to meet his own as she waited for a response. In the back of her mind she attempted to match a name to the person in front of her.

Remus jumped slightly and his head snapped in the direction of the whimiscal voice and his blue eyes locked on the girl sitting in the arm chair. Though he couldn't recall her name, he immediately recognized her. She was the same year as him. However, he wasn't very close to any girls, regardless of age or house, spending all his time either with the Marauders or simply by himself. The only one he was even remotely familiar with was Lily Evans, and that was only because of how much James forced the others to follow him while following her.
“How do you do?” he said startled. “I’m sorry I didn’t see you.”
His eyes adjusted to the light and he could make her face out more clearly. He immediately noticed she was holding a book. He couldn’t quite make out the title from where he was but it sparked his curiousity instantly. Not only because of how much he loved to read because most Gryffindor girls seemed to turn up their nose at the idea of books for fun. Books are for studying, they would say. It surprised to him to see a good-looking girl, other than Evans of course, reading for leisure. Unless maybe she was just studying out of procrastination or something to that effect.
“I apologize. I see I’ve disturbed your reading.”

Lily was exhausted. She had agreed to help Professor Flitwick by tutoring some second years in remedial Charms (as it was her favorite subject,) and she had just now finished, leaving her very little time for her own homework. She stepped into the portrait hole with a sigh, thinking about the paper that was due the following morning. She had put it off until the last minute, thinking she would have plenty of time to do it tonight, and then she had realized just how far behind her students really were. Lily didn't think any amount of remedial charms could help that lot.
She heaved her bookbag onto the table and sunk wearily into a chair, looking around to see who else had the misfortune of being up so late. She noticed Remus coming down the stairs, and as she looked up towards the boys' dorms, the distince sound of some sort of tussle could be heard. She rolled her eyes. James and his friends really needed to grow up. She waved to Lena as she spotted her in the chair next to the fire and gave her a small smile. "Hey. Good book?" She nodded to Remus as he joined their small group. "Evening, Remus."

Lena nodded, "I'm well, thank you. And yourself?" She questioned as she just ask quickly shook her head. "Believe me your not disturbing me. Please, have a seat. Company would be nice." She nodded towards the empty chairs around her. Being as social as she was Lena was not a big fan on being alone. In fact, quiet was known to drive her up a wall. The only time she succeeded in staying quiet was during a test.
Lena shrugged, "You didn't disturb me, and I'm not reading quite yet. Though I do need to finish this book.I has never been so hard for me to start a book. Normally, It hard for me to find a book I haven't read." She reminded herself to stay quiet. She was probably going to succeed in scaring the boy away. One Lena got started talking it was hard to make her stop. One of the traits that she inherited from her father. "Marlene McKinnon." She said with a smile. She turned that smile to Lily as she watched her sit down.
Lena shrugged in response to Lily's question. "You tell me." She said lifting the book up for both the boy Lily called Remus and Lily to see. The book title read Shattered The author was a man called K.R. Dwyer. It had been given to her by her mother on the release date a few months ago. It was a muggle novel her mother thought she would be interested in. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shattered_(novel)

Lily glanced at the cover and grinned, shrugging. "Never heard of it. You'll have to tell me how it turns out." Lily liked reading, but she never seemed to find much time for it. When she was at school, she was so busy with classes and friends that there weren't enough hours in the day, and when she was at home, Petunia always found a way to annoy her whenever she so much as looked at a book. "Looks better than this, though." Lily sighed, gesturing to her herbology book. She didn't have the patience for plants. "I'll happily trade you, believe me."

He smiled shyly as she offered him a seat, unsure of what to do. It was a good thing Sirius wasn't here. He slowly meandered over to the arm chair next to her.
"Thank you. I am Remus. Remus Lupin. It's nice to meet you Marlene."
He turned slightly to see Lily come in and nodded her head toward her in acknowledgement. Remus listened as the two talked and didn't add anything, so much he doubted the hardly remembered he was there, which was mostly fine with him. His ears did perk though at the title of the name, which he recognized.
"I've read it. It is a good book. It's written by a muggle right?" he interjected.

"I'll let you know how it turns out once I actually start reading it." She shrugged as she said this, putting the book back down on her arm rest. Lena's nose wrinkled as Lily offered to trade her books, Herbology. Not her favorite subject, "No. Thanks Lily but I'm fine." She shook her head as she laid back in her arm chair. "Besides, I can't take the test for you." She joked as she turned back to look at Remus.
"Just as nice to meet you Remus." She responded with a smile. Listening to him talk about the book that she should have read. "Yes, it is by a muggle. My mum's a muggle and she thought that with me liking to read I might like this one. However, I just can't get into this book." She shrugged as she realized she was babbling again. She blushed slightly looking back at the fire in front of her. "So what are you two doing up so late?" she questioned looking back up at Remus and Lily.

Lily groaned jokingly and batted her eyelashes at Lena. "Please? I'll even do your Charms homework for a month if you take this off my hands." She laughed at how desperate she sounded, pulling her quill and parchment out of her bag as she began to flip the pages of the book. List the twelve magical plants that can be used as a scentless pest repellent, and then mark them in the order of effectiveness. How bloody boring. Wonder if it'll work on Potter? Hmm...
She began to write absently, looking up when Lena addressed her again. "I agreed to tutor remedial Charms, but it wasn't as easy as I thought it would be. Now I have to finish this essay in time to hand it in tomorrow morning. What are you doing up?" Lily figured by the lack of giggling to be heard that the other girls in their dorm were asleep, which was fine with her. She didn't need distractions if she was going to get this finished and get some sleep.

Remus shrugged. "Yeah it takes a while but further on there are some pretty suspenseful parts."
He listened to Lily talk about remedial charms. Bleh. He loved charms but tutoring was hard work. Though Marlene had asked the both of them, since Lily had questioned what she was doing up, he politely waited for her reply. Besides, he was feeling shy and a little nervous in the presence of two cute girls by himself.

Lena nodded as she listened to Lily talk about her Charms. She smiled, "You're smart. You'll figure it out." She said this genuinely, an honest look in her cinnamon brown eyes. "But if you want to, we can study together." She offered, with an honest smile. Lena was pretty good at Charms, nowhere near perfect but decent enough.
Looking back at Remus she nodded, "I'll attempt to start and finish it." Her smile still plastered to her face. She enjoyed being around theses two even if she didn't know them well enough to call them friends. However, at this rate maybe they would start.

"Hm? Oh, it's not me I'm worried about. I've helped enough people in charms that I know it's not my teaching. The second years I have just don't care, and that's the problem. They have no desire to improve, and therefore it puts me at a bit of a stalemate." Lily smiled at Lena, looking worn out. "Thanks, though. I don't mean to complain, I'm just frustrated." Lily didn't complain much about anything, other than her dislike of James. It was a sign of just how tired she was that she even said anything at all about it.
Lily smiled warmly at Remus, wondering why he was so quiet tonight. He didn't seem to have a problem speaking when he was around Potter and Black, that is, when he could get a word in at all over their prattle. "Having a good evening, Remus?" She asked, propping her chin up on her arm. She figured she could befriend Remus, even with James and Sirius in the picture. He wasn't a git, not like his friends.

Remus shrugged but smiled. "It's hard to get sleep being in the same room with James and Sirius. Or read. Or do anything peaceful really." His eyes turned upward and he could still hear the ensuing pillow fight going on in the third year boys dormitory. Sirius let out a mighty battle cry, causing Remus to cringe slightly, but he just shook his head with slight amusement.
"Forgive my lack of talkativeness. I'm rather tired."
He shifted his eyes towards the window. He knew it was not just lack of sleep that caused his unsociable behavior. But also the growing moon outside.
