Raine was sitting in the common room at a table with books all around her. Not sure what she wanted to start on yet she just picked a book at random. Of course it would be Potions I pick up. As much as Raine loved school and learning. Potions was just something she could not get the hang of. I should probably see if I can get an upper year to help me this year. For now I'll just practice Charms. With that she grabbed her Charms book and cracked it open.
However, as she was sitting there she realized she couldn't seem to focus. That wasn't normal for her and she didn't know how to handle it. So she closed the Charms book and picked up History of Magic. As boring as it was it was something she could just sit and read which is what she needed at the moment.

Phoenix flipped the thin page of his book rapidly, his hazel eyes glued to every word. He was reading the particular tome with the enthusiasm most readers had for the latest crime novel, but Phoenix wasn't reading fiction- he was working on the extra credit for muggle studies.
Phoenix absently pulled the back of his t-shirt down, feeling the slight draft from the open tower window hit him. He had finished classes early that morning, and so he had changed out of his uniform when he had returned from lunch. Now he was wearing jeans and a striped t-shirt he had no memory of purchasing, but had found in his trunk just that morning. Well, it would work.
The common room was surprisingly barren of people today, other than a younger student studying at one of the tables, and a seventh year napping on the couch. Phoenix supposed the rest of the Ravenclaws were out on the grounds or in class- not that the Ravenclaw common room was ever that loud to begin with. They preferred to spend their time reading to partying, unlike the Gryffindors. To each his own, he supposed.

Raine sighed and slammed her current book down loudly, blowing her long black hair out of her face. She didn't know what her major malfunction was today, but none of these subjects were catching her interest. She decided the class that needed worked on was Potions. Whether she liked it or not. She hadn't even opened the book earlier. And now she decided it was time.
She cracked the book, dreading every moment of it. As she began reading through some potions and pointing things out to herself that she knew would cause problems. However, she knew this was a necessary evil no matter how much it pained her. Reading along she finally was done. "That's it. I can't take it anymore." she cried and threw her book across the room. Perfection would just have to wait.

Phoenix looked up when the girl slammed a book down, and it was a good thing, too- because it gave him precisely three seconds to duck out of the way of the book she chucked across the room. He sat up and stared at her, hoping that that had not been an intentional commentary on him; after all, he had never spoke with her before.
"Er, anything I can help with?" Phoenix asked awkwardly. The girl seemed to be having a rough time, and he didn't feel the desire to have another book chucked at him. Better to stay a few feet back, at least.

Raine sighed and stood up to walk over and grab the book that she had thrown. Then she heard someone speak. "Oh, I'm so sorry. Did that hit you? I didn't mean it to. I was just frustrated." She continued walking over to grab the book.
She bent over and grabbed the book and began to walk back to her own study table. "Again I'm sorry if that hit you." With that she walked over and sat back down.

"It was a close shave, but I managed to dodge. No harm, no foul." He sat up onto his knees and held a hand out to her. "I'm Phoenix Rosier, by the way. I don't think I've spoke to you before."
Even though students shared the same house, it wasn't exactly practical to know every single person in the tower one lived in. Especially those in different years. Still, Phoenix wasn't the sort of snob that would resist acquaintance on year or blood alone, unlike the rest of his family.

She shook his hand, and glanced up because he was taller. "No we haven't I'm Raine Bloodraven. Again I'm sorry I almost hit you. Potions just really frustrates me. Plus I can't seem to focus on anything today." Raine said.
As an afterthought she asked, "Are you any good at potions? She then stood waiting for an answer expectantly. Really hoping he said yes because she could definitely use the help if he would agree to it.

"Potions?" Phoenix repeated, offering her a slight smile as he got to his feet and brushed off his clothes. "I'm pretty good at potions." He was pretty good at a lot, actually, with his almost OCD attention to details and the need to know exactly how everything worked. It certainly helped him pass his classes with flying colors.
"Would you like some help?" He offered. It should be easy enough, as she was a few years younger than him.

Raine almost sighed in relief at his answer and the fact he offered and she didn't have to ask him herself. 'Help would be the most amazing thing.' Normally Raine was excellent at everything because she was always studying, however Potions was just something she always managed to make implode. Usually in her face.
'Thank you so much I want to say in advance. I don't know what it is but I just can't get the hang of Potions tho I seem to have no problems with anything else.' She smiled and lit up just so happy to finally have someone she wasn't terrified to talk to and someone who was actually willing to help her.

Phoenix shook his head, looking a little embarrassed at how warm her thanks were. "Don't mention it." He said, ruffling his hair slightly as he went to join her at the table. "Older students are supposed to help out the younger students, aren't they?"
He pulled a chair out and settled onto in, leaning the chair back slightly onto two legs. "What are you trying to do?" He asked, setting his mind in the right train of thought for potions. It didn't take much for him to focus, when it came to schoolwork. It was everything else that was the problem.
"Everyone has to have something they're not perfect at." He said quietly, trying to put the girl more at ease.

"Because this is Potions it's probably something that will require a cauldron and ingredients and such but since that isn't available at the moment I was just kind of trying to read some of the potions in the book. But I swear every time I read the potion ingredients something changes. When I'm in class I always manage to screw up...generally ending with the potion exploding in my face." Realizing that she was rambling pretty quickly and that he probably had no clue what she was saying anymore, she went silent.
"Oh really and what are you not perfect at? she asked not really expecting an answer because who wants everyone to know your weaknesses. She knew she didn't want anyone knowing her main weakness. If anyone found out she was fairly certain things wouldn't end well for her or for anyone around her which was why she generally kept to herself, but a person can only deal with so much loneliness in their life before it drives them insane.
